WORKS ON PAPER
Abstract art is an exploration of inner landscapes.
These works on paper are about an expedition …an odyssey that has taught me volumes about authentic expression. It is a bit like skating in that you move through space and colour until you find an edge. It is never about control but much more about the act of letting go.
Persistent themes begin to reveal themselves over a long period of time. It is rarely in a chronological order that images present but the thread appears the more one addresses oneself without boundaries. Image making becomes the meditation and it leads to a continuous unfolding. The Wildfire group is an ‘accidental’ series that grew over a two year period.
Relinquishing with abandon tends to unclog the filters of ego and intellect. What appears will reflect that which has been ‘taken in’ and it is that process of egoless synthesis that I see emerging. That an ‘inner landscape’ series has begun to reflect contours of land and sky should not have surprised me. As my friend David Essig said: “of course everything you touch turns into a landscape…You are Canadian!”
